Lenny Smith FSWPP/Master – President

As one of only a handful of photographers in the UK to hold a Fellowship Qualification and the only photographer in Scotland to be awarded a Master with the Societies, the largest photographic organisation in Europe it is indeed a great privilege for me to be President of this new and exciting photography group. For years my aim has been to pass on my knowledge and experience in photography to other photographers and help them on there photography journey. As a qualified National and International judge and a lecturer on photography at Moray College I feel I am in a great position to be President of SPG and with the help of a great committee beside me I would like to try and create a group that you the members are proud to be part of.

Douglas J Campbell – Secretary

I have recently rekindled my interest in photography and I am gradually exploring the wonders of the digital world. I use a Canon camera with Canon and Tamron lenses. My interest lies in landscapes, seascapes, street and night photography.

Gordon Grant – Treasurer

Photography has been my hobby for over 50 years starting with slides in the early days.   I use Canon equipment and have, over the years, drifted towards wild-life photography and now spend a lot of time in bird hides waiting for the next shot.

Michael Ross – Syllabus Convenor

I am a local photographer, originally from Burghead, now living in Forres. I have been interested in photography for a long time but I have only just in the past 2 years really started to get into it in a serious way. I enjoy event photography as well as Macro and Painting with Light and commercial photography. I use a Nikon D750 with a full range of lenses from 15mm right through to 600mm. To date my most successful set of pictures have to be the ones I took at the 2018 Clavie.

Bill Rennie – Competition Secretary

A local photographer from Elgin, originally from Keith. Photography has been a serious hobby of mine for the past 5 years, prior to that it was just ‘point and shoot’ on automatic setting. My main interest is portrait and fashion photography and am keen to try more wildlife and landscapes. I use Canon equipment, having a 5DIII and 7DII bodies with a selection of lenses.

Martyn Thomas – Competition Secretary

I’m a local photographer and have lived in ther area since 1978. My original intention was to become a landscape photographer but after attending various continuous improvement courses over the last 4-5 years, my direction has changed to becoming a Portrait Photographer. I am a member of the SWPP. I use a Canon camera and lenses with mainly Elinchrom lighting equipment.

Steph Gilchrest – Competition Secretary

I’m an amateur photographer, I love trying to capture the connection between people and in particular, families. I enjoy a variety of genres but as always, time to go out and take beautiful photos is the biggest challenge I face. Using canon equipment and always willing to help someone with the basics.

My interest in photography started as a teenager when I did some modelling for a photographer friend and watched as the image appeared in the darkroom. It wasn’t until 2004 and after I’d had my children that I returned to photography when I attended Moray College and studied ‘A’ Level Photography. The course threw me head first into experimenting with how I created images, how to analyse photos and always encouraged me to challenge myself. Since then I have continued to attend various courses in assorted subjects to help inspire me with new ideas when working on my favourite types of photography – photojournalism/ documentary with plenty of action shots..

Rosie Williams – Committee Member

My interest in Photography goes back many years, first using film then slides and eventually digital images. After upgrading to a Canon full frame DSLR and buying better quality lenses, my interest has gained momentum by reading, learning and trying various techniques to improve my pictures. I have a huge interest in macro, but also in seascapes and find myself being drawn into wildlife photography after taking pictures of birds and squirrels in my garden. Seeing other photographers’ work has inspired me to try other genres. My current obsession is to get pictures of dolphins and seals, supposing it kills me.
